The steel structure of the economy with more route to a piece of raw steel from the warehouse to load on trucks heading to the job site. Time piece is a "catch" all the delays and increased costs in the final aircraft completed or corner.
A beam with ten or so bolt
holes and cut to length has really very few "touches" . But many fabricated sections are considerably more complicated than that.
For example, complete fabrication recently performed on an 96" W16x31 structural beam involved three dozen unique operations:
* Front Trim Miter Cut 1/4"
* 2 Copes on the front of the beam
* 3 Bolt Holes on that same end of the beam
* 6 bolt hole angled cluster on web
* 4 layout marks on web* 2 bolt holes on top flange
* 2 bolt holes on bottom flange
* 3 slots on web at rear of beam
* Piece Mark - 2 Lines - 9 characters total
* Flange notch cut flush with web (each end of the beam)
* Cope on rear of beam* Notch cut on flange
Analysis by fabricating three-part "Path" was very different in terms of disclosure requirements as a result of this.
In the beginning, "high touch" way of using the traditional. Beams must be measured and marked and cut on the bandsaw and then there are plenty of "guide" the drill (As recognized by the heavy duty drill press) and critical (torch) to heat and cut off copes than shock mounts by hand to sign pieces of nine characters. All times relevant to the process, these were approximately 120 minutes - 2 hours, but because of transportation and time involved in the queue at the station next to the clock's time to cover at least two shift - usually twice a day at the store. Most trade.
Second, an automated solution to improve more and be used to build parts. This involves a long cut on the bandsaw and then shuttling to the beam line to drill bolt holes and thirteen, and three channels. Newer CNC drill line is the steel probe to determine the location and size, then put through the instructions given by using special software. The remaining properties must be measured and marked on the beam before cutting. Cut and is done by facing torch hand, stationary plate and stamps on the letters piecemark total duration of this method is 82 minutes again when the total time required to transfer parts between the stations and the time waiting at the station. The real time clock to find the sum of the changes most
Then the piece was fabricated on a new and one-of-kind approach. All features were produced on a single machine - a robotic plasma cutting system. Using this approach, there is no use for any measuring or marking. The sensor tip probes the workpiece for position and geometery, then follows its own calculated cutting instructions it calculates from standard software files of the workpiece downloaded into the operator control from programs like TEKLA, SD/2,StruCAD and others.
